Originally, I did not like it that much, I found it rather very boring, until I watched it for the second time alone, without friends. A movie with zero weak scenes, zero weak moments. One word, cool!. It tells important lesson about how you should live your life to it's fullness. Director made a lot of good work with brilliant writing and amazing cinematography. Full Metal Jacket is one of those films where no sigle character gives a weak play. When a film makes all of its scenes so influential that you don't want to pick your favorites, you know it is just a great movie. Based on Gustav Hasford';s novel The Short Timers, a two-segment look at the effect of the military mindset and war itself on Vietnam era Marines. The first half follows a group of recruits in boot camp under the command of the punishing Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second half shows one of those recruits, Joker, covering the war as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes, focusing on the Tet offensive.
